The 1st regular meeting of the Central European Tectonics Groups (the 8th meeting of the Czech Tectonic Studies Group) was held in Hrubá Skála Chateau, Czech Republic, April 24-27, 2003.

The main organizer was the Geophysical Division of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Prior to the conference, the participants went on an excursion transecting the České Středohoři Mts., one of two large Tertiary volcanic complexes developed in the Eger Rift. The České Středohoři Mts are ranked among the classical volcanic regions on a global scale. A post-conference field trip led to the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin. Although three languages were spoken during the conference and scientific contributions were delivered in Czech, Polish and Slovak, abstracts of all the presentations and a field trip guidebook appeared in English in the 16th volume of GeoLines published by the Geology Division of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The scientific program included 40 talks and 66 poster presentations.
